How All Of The Yankees Hitters Were Acquired:

The success of most franchises usually occurs when a huge core is built up through a drafting system, and then the club can piece the rest of the club together.
The 2nd best way to create a winning squad is to trade for players with the organizational pieces you have supplanted in the Minors or Majors.
Then there is the Yankees way of doing things. Hiring Free Agents – and spend boatloads of dollars.
Out of the majority of their hitting roster in 2014, most of them came through the Free Agent route.
Mark Teixeira, Brian McCann, Carlos Beltran, Brian Roberts, Kelly Johnson and Yangervis Solarte were acquired through outright Free Agency.
Ichiro Suzuki and Brendan Ryan were both acquired in deals, then have since re-signed as Free Agents in the open market afterwards.
Alfonso Soriano, was brought over in a deal, and is in the last year of his current contract signed back in 2007.
Yes, he was originally signed by the “Pinstripers”, but the new chain of transaction, had the club giving away a pitching prospect for his services, even though he is still tied to A’Rod.
Derek Jeter, Brett Gardner and Francisco Cervelli stand alone as the only 3 players to have been drafted by the club – and have remained Yanks their whole playing time thus far.
A lot should be said about doing business this way. It is not a good idea.
New York spent $153 MIL on 7 years for Ellsbury, 3/$45 MIL for Beltran – and 5/$85 MIL for McCann’s services, with a 6 Year, it could reach $100 MIL.
All of these players are now north of 30 years old.
In fact, Solarte (now not the starting 3B), is the only player under the age of 30 to 100 AB for the franchise this season.
With all of the incoming talent struggling thus far, the best offense has come from Gardner, Suzuki, Jeter and Teixeira.
I will give an average pass to Ellsbury right now, but he needs a stronger 2nd half.
For those that have never seen one of our Roster Trees, we go over how all of the players were acquired.
It works like 6 degrees of separation. By searching back to the origin of all the way back until a player is signed, drafted or purchased.
It totally gives you an idea on how the franchise has fared.
New York Yankees 2014 Hitters Age/Position (Roster Tree)
Derek Jeter SS (40): Drafted by the New York Yankees in the 1st round (6th pick) of the 1992 amateur draft.

Lets all hope El Capitan can play well in his last half of a year .

D.J. Mitchell (27) RP: was Drafted by the New York Yankees in the 10th round of the 2008 amateur draft.
It is to be noted, that Suzuki did re-sign as Free Agent, prior to the 2013 year.
Alex Rodriguez (39) 3B: Acquired in Feb.2004 from the Texas Rangers for Alfonso Soriano and Joaquin Arias.
September 29, 1998: Alfonso Soriano was Purchased by the New York Yankees from Hiroshima Toyo Carp (Japan Central).

Zoilo Almonte (24)LF: Signed by the New York Yankees as an amateur free agent in 2005.
Good early production couldn’t find this guy having a role with the future of the club for right now.
Kelly Johnson (32) 2B/3B/LF: December 6, 2013: Signed as a Free Agent with the New York Yankees.
Brian Roberts (36) 2B/SS: January 14, 2014: Signed as a Free Agent with the New York Yankees.
Jacoby Ellsbury (30) CF: December 7, 2013: Signed as a Free Agent with the New York Yankees.
Mark Teixeira (33) 1B: January 6, 2009: Signed as a Free Agent with the New York Yankees. While Tex’s production has slowly declined, he came up huge for them in the 2009 regular season.
From 2009 – 2011, he had 3 straight 30+ HRs and 100+ RBI. He had similar power numbers last season to because he missed 40 games.
His absence in 2013 has been felt. Having 3 YRs/$67.5 MIL left after this season might begin to hurt a little, but it was the market back then.
Francisco Cervelli (27) C: Signed by the New York Yankees as an amateur free agent in 2003.
Brett Gardner (30) OF: Drafted by the New York Yankees in the 3rd round of the 2005 amateur draft.
